Legislative Report Card

Shane Davies

Coalition releases its 2010 Legislative Report Card

As the new chair of the East King County Chambers of Commerce Legislative Coalition, my first official duty is to present this year’s Coalition Report Card highlighting how our Eastside legislators voted on business issues during this last session in Olympia. The Report Card serves two important purposes: first, to send a clear message to our legislative representatives that we are committed to improving our economy through sustainable job growth in the private sector and secondly, to alert our members to the importance of identifying those legislators who are most closely aligned with our Legislative Agenda.

The Report Card consists of 12 total bills falling within the Coalition’s focus areas. We included two pieces of legislation for each of our three priority areas of transportation, economic development and business taxation. Of the 12 total bills, the Coalition supported seven and was opposed to five.*

We believe you will find this report card instructive. As always, The Coalition’s forty delegates, (representing ten chambers of commerce in East King County) are committed to understanding the issues and look forward to working with all our legislators as we advocate for those issues affecting jobs, business and commerce in this great State of Washington.

Sincerely,
Shane Davies
Chair 2010-2011
East King County Chambers of
Commerce Legislative Coalition

*Methodology: Legislation was selected based on relevance to the Coalition’s Legislative Agenda distributed in January. Two bills were selected for each of the Coalition’s three priority areas, giving these issues more weight on the report card. If a legislator voted “yes” on a bill supported by the Coalition they received a point. If a legislator voted “no” on a bill opposed by the Coalition they received a point. Any absence was seen as opposition to the Coalition. A legislator’s total points were divided by 12, the total number of bills in the scorecard, to give them their final score.
