Fishing Derby Rules

There are 3 ways to win a prize with your $2 derby ticket:
1. "Top 100" Enter one of the 100 largest trout caught from the lake, (not the net pen fish school). Your fish must be weighed/measured at the official weigh station. KEEP YOUR TICKET, you will select your "quality" top 100 prize in order (biggest fish first) at the end of the derby and surrender your ticket when you pick your prize.

2. "Get It Now" Choose to not wait, and select from the "Get It Now" prize table. Also if/when your fish falls out of the "Top 100" group (as posted at derby headquarters) you should select your prize immediately from this table. All fish caught/entered from the Fish School Net Pen will receive their prize here. You must surrender your ticket when you receive your prize.

3. "It's Not Over Yet". All those who selected from the "Get It Now" table may enter their derby ticket in this drawing for 20 additional "quality" prizes to be drawn at the end of the derby. Tickets must be deposited before 12:00 noon. ANY SIZE FISH CAN WIN! Must be present to win.

Finders Fee for the Tagged Fish!
Our Tagged Fish Sponsor, "Automated Networking" is offering a $300 bounty on "Sir Lucas", this year's tagged fish!
"Sir Lucas" must be caught on derby day and presented to derby officials for verification prior to noon on Saturday.

Maple Valley's Opening Day Fishing Derby
& Fishermen's Breakfast at Lake Wilderness

Saturday, April 25, 2009 12:01 a.m. to noon

The Greater Maple Valley - Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Maple Valley Rotary and the City of Maple Valley, sponsors the community celebration of Opening Day "Hooked on Fishing" Derby on Lake Wilderness.

The Fishing Derby begins at 12:01 am (that’s right!) on the last Saturday in April. No boat? You can fish from the dock! Too dark? You can pitch a tent and camp out in the Park for the night! Hungry? Breakfast will be served by Maple Valley Rotary from 12:01 am until noon on Saturday; $3 for pancakes, eggs, ham, and hash browns! What a deal! Rotary will also sell hot dogs and hamburgers on Friday from 5pm until midnight for the same low price!

The Derby is at two levels—the family trout derby with prizes for almost everyone and then the tagged fish derby. Purchase your $2 trout derby tickets until noon on Saturday at Derby Headquarters (at the beach house on Lake Wilderness). Please see Fishing Derby Rules.

The tagged fish derby event is for a cash prize! This $5 derby ticket must be purchased prior to midnight on Friday. Tickets will be for sale at Maple Valley Vision Clinic, John L. Scott, Mt. Rainier Bank (Maple Valley), Wilderness Auto Service & Chevron, Johnson’s Home & Garden, BECU, the Chamber office and also at Derby Headquarters in the Park on Friday, from 5 PM until midnight. Buy your ticket prior to midnight to win the cash prize for the "Tagged Fish".

Guides will be on hand to assist with all your fishing needs along with a bait station. The “Fish School” opens on Saturday at 6 am for kids 12 years and younger. Fishing guides with all the needed gear are on the dock to help the young angler land a "winning catch" from a fish pen stocked with 500 trout. The next stop is the "Fins and Grins" photo booth to pose for an absolutely free 4x6 photo memory of opening day on Lake Wilderness.

For this once a year event, the City is allowing FREE overnight tent camping for derby participants in The Park on Friday night. Restroom facilities are available. Come prepared to keep warm and dry—there is no electricity available at the campsite. There are limited campsites available—please contact the Chamber of Commerce for more info! Campers will be permitted to set up campsites after 5 pm Friday. NO RV's PLEASE!

Public and life safety will be provided by Maple Valley City Police, King County Explorer Scouts, and Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety.

This is a great event for all ages! Maple Valley is “Hooked on Fishing”!
